This statement applies to the online shop KORNDEX at this address.
Everyone should be able to find the right abrasive here – with a mouse, a keyboard, a screen reader or by phone. What has been implemented for this is listed below; so is what is still missing. If you come across a barrier, write to us – we will remove it.
Our commitment
As the provider of an online shop for consumers, we are obliged under the German Accessibility Strengthening Act (Barrierefreiheitsstärkungsgesetz, BFSG) to offer our service in an accessible way. The benchmark is EN 301 549 and therefore WCAG 2.1, level AA.
The following information is based on a self-assessment: we have reviewed the shop against the requirements and record what is met and what is not.
What has been implemented
- Keyboard accessible. Every page can be used without a mouse. A skip link at the start leads straight to the content; the focus is visible and moves in the order in which the page is read.
- Structure for screen readers. Headings are real headings, lists are real lists, form fields have labels. The page language is marked up correctly.
- Readable text and contrast. Body text keeps a contrast of at least 4.5:1 on light and dark backgrounds, and the border of an input field at least 3:1 – calculated from the colours themselves on every test run. No information depends on colour alone.
- Zoom without loss. The pages are designed for 200% zoom and narrow windows; there is only one scrolling direction and content is not cut off.
- Large touch targets. Links and buttons are at least 44 × 44 px on mobile – including the small links in the footer.
- Calm presentation. Nothing flashes and nothing moves by itself. If you have set “Reduce motion” in your operating system, transitions appear without animation.
- Products in words, not just pictures. Grit, diameter, contents and price per piece are shown as text next to every product. Drawings and photos are additional, never the only source.
Known limitations
- Checkout and customer account. Payment, order overview and addresses are handled by Shopify. We do not design these pages ourselves; we check them and report barriers to Shopify. Until they are fixed, we also take every order by phone or email.
- No external audit yet. The information here is based on a self-assessment against the standard, not on a test by an independent body. Some pages have not yet been fully checked.
- Print pages and price list. The grit chart and price list are intended for printing. They can be used on screen; the printed sheet naturally cannot.
Ordering without the website
You can reach us by phone and by email. We accept orders, questions about grits and withdrawals this way just as in the shop – and, on request, we will read the details of a product out to you.
- Phone: +49 (0) 6184 99 47 120 (Mon–Fri 8 am–5 pm (German time))

Reporting a barrier
If something is not usable for you, please let us know – ideally with the page, the device and what did not work. We will get back to you within five working days and tell you what we are going to change and by when. Until it is resolved, you will get the information or the order in a way that works for you.

If we cannot help
If you are not satisfied with our answer, or do not receive one, you can contact the market surveillance authority. It checks whether a service meets the requirements of the BFSG (the joint authority of the German federal states for the accessibility of products and services):
Marktüberwachungsstelle der Länder für die Barrierefreiheit von Produkten und Dienstleistungen (MLBF)Carl-Miller-Straße 6
39112 Magdeburg, Germany
kontakt@mlbf-barrierefrei.de

The procedure there costs you nothing and does not replace legal action.
What comes next
- Go through the checkout with a screen reader and using only the keyboard, and report every obstacle to Shopify.
- Commission an audit by an independent body and publish the result here.
- Review this statement at least once a year and after every major change to the shop.
