Description

The film backing is perfectly flat and tear-resistant: no grain breaking out, no cockling when wet, an even scratch pattern without deep rogue scratches. The choice for top coat, clear coat and plastics when the result is going to be polished.

P240 to P1500 – the fine grits can also be used wet.

Good to know

  • Why multihole?

The holes are spread across the whole disc. So it fits backing pads with 6, 7, 8 or 15 holes without having to be lined up exactly – and the dust is extracted where it is created. The disc clogs more slowly.

  • Why film instead of paper?

A film backing is smooth, tear-resistant and uniformly thick. That keeps the grain very level and the scratch pattern even – especially with fine grits on paint. Film copes with water; paper only if it is made for it.

  • Sand wet?

Water binds the dust, cools and flushes away the removed material – the scratch pattern gets finer and the abrasive does not clog. Squeegee the surface now and then to check the result.

Warnings and safety information

  • Dust and eye protection

Sanding creates dust. Work with dust extraction; otherwise wear respiratory protection (at least FFP2) and safety glasses. Dust from wood, metal, paint and plastics can be harmful to health; old paints dating from before the 1990s may contain lead.

  • Fit and speed

Only fit hook-and-loop abrasives centrally on an undamaged backing pad of the same size and line up the holes. Do not exceed the maximum permitted speed of the machine.

  • Damaged abrasives

Do not use torn, creased or chipped abrasives – they can come loose while running. Check the hook-and-loop surface of the backing pad regularly as well.

  • Sparks and heat

Sanding metal produces sparks and hot debris. Do not sand near solvents, paint residues or other flammable materials, and do not leave the contents of the dust bag standing open.

  • Wet or dry

Only sand wet where the technical data state “Use: wet” or “wet and dry”. Mains-powered machines are not approved for wet sanding unless their manufacturer expressly permits it.
